Erykah shares a little info with us...."I had so much fun at our wedding that in a heart beat, I would do it all over again! What made it so enjoyable is that we based the wedding theme on something we love—the Harlem Renaissance movement of the 1920s and early 1930s, an exciting time in America where jazz music exploded. I think wedding theme's are fun, but they can be tricky to pull-off so we decided to focus on a few key things to bring the theme to life.
For the reception, we wanted a location that was unique, untraditional, yet still relatively close to downtown Toronto; the Palais Royale was the perfect choice! The food and service was amazing, but it was the history and ambiance of the location that made our hearts melt—a former jazz supper club of the 1920s. Another thing we focused on was the overall "look" of the bridal party: loose finger waves, smokey-eyes, and bling for the ladies was a must-have; bow-ties and navy blue velvet jackets was a must for the men.
The other major thing we zoned in on was the entertainment. We had an awesome local jazz band that performed throughout the evening and hired swing dancers to start the reception off with a bang. All of these details worked so well together and I'm truly grateful to all the vendors who helped us pull it off. The biggest thanks goes to Shawn and Petia at Renaissance Studios who did a phenomenal job at documenting our day.
The biggest advice I have to the brides-to-be out there is: do your research and focus on key design elements. Wedding planning is supposed to be fun!"
