Say Hello to Darcy Miller of Martha Stewart Weddings
Since launching The Bride's Cafe, I have had the opportunity to meet (via phone...email....and in person), so many wonderful and talented people in the wedding industry.....stopping by the cafe today is one lady that I've always admired, she's beautiful...talented...truly inspiring...and just so sweet and I love her style...she's Darcy Miller.

When I asked Darcy if she would do an interview with me for the cafe and she said yes, well, you know I was doing my "happy dance"....I'm sure like all of you, I feel like I've known her forever...and I have so many copies of Martha Stewart Weddings...it's really out of control, I just can't throw them away....every issue is filled with so much beautiful inspiration that is truly timeless.....so without further ado, let's show Darcy some serious "cafe love" for all the beautiful inspiration she and the wonderful staff at Martha Stewart Weddings brings to us each day.....Enjoy!

TBC:  Happy 15th Anniversary Martha Stewart Weddings….please tell us what are the key elements that are a “must have” to produce such a successful publication.

DM:  Thanks very much! We are excited to celebrate our 15th anniversary. I think the most important “must have” when producing a successful publication is a talented staff.  I’m very lucky to work with such a creative, dedicated group of people who are continuously inspired by the world around them to come up with new ideas for our readers.

TBC:  What 3 adjectives describe Martha Stewart Weddings style?

DM:  I would say personal, timeless, and beautiful.

TBC:  Describe the Martha Stewart Weddings reader.

DM
The Martha Stewart Weddings reader is creative and sophisticated, and strives to create one-of-a-kind celebrations filled with the personal touches that result in a truly unforgettable occasion for themselves and their guests (or their client if they work in the industry.)

TBC:  What is the best part about your job?

DM
I enjoy the creativity of my job, and helping a couple bring to life their vision of the perfect wedding day. Even though I’ve planned weddings for fifteen years, it never gets boring to me. Every couple is unique and has a different idea of what they want their wedding day to be like. I’ve planned a wedding that’s been on the top floor of Tiffany’s in New York, a nautical themed wedding, one in Paris, and even one on a farm. I also get to bring Martha Stewart Weddings content, tips, and inspiration to readers through several different mediums including print, television, radio, our Bride’s guide blog http://thebridesguide.marthastewartweddings.com/ and through twitter. I’m constantly doing different things, which I love!

TBC:  What has been the highlight of your career to date?

DM
That’s a hard question! I’ve been at MSLO for 19 years, so there are a lot of highlights to pick from. We won an ASME (American Society of Magazine Editors) General Excellence Award – the only bridal publication to ever do so – and that was certainly a big highlight!

TBC:  How long does it take to put an issue together….can you tell us a little about the process?

DM
It’s not an exact science. We produce 5 issues a year, so if you divide that by twelve, it’s about two and a half months per issue. But it’s more complicated than that because we might be working on one issue and hold a photo shoot for an upcoming issue at the same time. It’s a very exciting process though – from brainstorming ideas to final layout to print!

TBC:  What sets Martha Stewart Weddings apart from other wedding publications?

DM
We set the standard for discerning brides who want their wedding day to be a unique celebration that reflects who they are, as well as for wedding industry professionals seeking creative ideas for the brides they serve.  We’re constantly generating fresh ideas that inspire our readers and our combination of information, imagination, and elegance take brides from engagement to the dress and beyond, inspiring every detail of her unforgettable day and helping her set the stage for her new life –from announcements to favors and from registry to honeymoon.   MarthaStewartWeddings.com is also an incredible resource for brides-to-be with our planning tools, DIY details, and pages and pages of real weddings, cake, flower, and color ideas and so much more.  Also, we don’t just cover weddings, we plan them! A lot of readers don’t realize this, but we actually help plan a lot of the weddings featured in our pages. And finally, our featured weddings, tips, DIY ideas, and more are constantly emulated by brides, so we really set the trends.

TBC:  All brides dream of having their wedding published in Martha Stewart Weddings….what do you, as an editor, look for when selecting the beautiful weddings that are featured in Martha Stewart Weddings?

DM:  We look for new, unique, personalized details that we think will be inspiring to other brides. We like to feature a mix of styles and locations as well. Check out this one we featured in the spring issue:  http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/photogallery/eunice-and-daniel  and click here to see more real weddings we’ve featured: http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/real-weddings

TBC:  Darcy…you have seen so many beautiful weddings over the years, what are some of your favorite details that truly make a wedding “unique” and “special”?

DM
I love it when a bride and groom write their own vows. I also think dessert buffets, specialty cocktails, and fun, personal toasts are great!

TBC:  Tell us a little about your personal life, we want to get to know you a little better!

DM
I’ve worked at MSLO my entire career and Martha Stewart fixed me up with my husband. I have three little girls who love to dress up and I enjoy scrapbooking, scrapboxing http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/family-history-in-the-making-darcys-frames-and-scrapboxes , and illustrating in whatever free time I have!  Also, be sure to pick up a copy of our DIY issue, on sale May 31st.

Darcy, thank you SO much for stopping by and sharing a little of "your world" with us today....this was so much fun and  we all wish you continued success and of course we look forward to celebrating the next 15 years at Martha Stewart Weddings......guys, make certain you pick up the new issue....and don't you just love the cover.....on sale  May 31st.

P.S.....I have to give a special "shout out" and "thank you" to Sarah for helping me over the past few weeks...xoxo
