Simply Elegant - Bride & Bloom Feature

Happy Monday Guys....so happy to have you stop by the cafe today....last fall I, JMFlora Design,  was asked to design a "table decor" feature for the current issue of Bride & Bloom magazine....how fun and exciting to have your work featured in their gorgeous publication.....the theme for the shoot was "Simply Elegant"....so I called my friend and event stylist, Courtney Spencer of Merriment Events and enlisted her help. Once we decided on the color palette and the floral for the shoot, we contacted a few AMAZINGLY talented and oh-so-sweet vendors in the industry and it all came together so perfectly....AND....with Elizabeth Messina capturing all the magic of this feature for us...OMG, EVERYONE was totally over the moon to have their work photographed by Elizabeth!

I hope you will enjoy our "Simply Elegant" feature....we had so much fun putting this together for Bride & Bloom....thanks so much to Carol Poon and the staff....Enjoy!

And now here are more detail images courtesy of Elizabeth Messina of Kiss The Groom....thanks Elizabeth!

Courtney selected all the beautiful linens, stemware and china for the tables.....I love the soft blue color palette.

For the floral we kept it simple...yet, elegant....white hydrangea, belles of Ireland, white snowberries, white ranunculus and burgundy dahilias for a "pop of color".......and we used birch covered containers as the vessel.

The place cards, menu cards, table number and the cute "bride and groom" signs were designed by Kristy Rice of Momental Designs....Kristy's work is so beauiful!

I love these cute little wooden place card holders......we purchased them from A Remark You Made...found on Etsy...I adore Etsy...so many great finds!!

Ranunculus, Queen Anne's lace, green parrot tulips, dahilas, and helleborous make up this pretty garden bouquet!

The gorgeous cakes were designed by Kristine Bender at K. Rose Cakes....Kristine's cakes are SO beautiful and SO good....and she is just the sweetest person...I adore her!!

Same cake....different look with the sugar flowers....Kristine is so talented!

The shoot took place at the Veritas Vineyard & Winery....such a fun day!!

We "Heart" Momental Designs!

Thanks for checking in guys....up next are the beautiful wedding papers by Momental Designs....the beautiful and talented ladies at Momental are AMAZING and I'm so excited to have Kristy Rice, Founder and Owner, stop by the cafe today...and equally excited to share that Momental Designs is a member of The Bride's Cafe Crème de la Crème wedding vendor list.  Momental Designs invitations are truly "works of art" and Kristy is so sweet to give us a "cafe interview"....let's check out what Kristy has to share....Enjoy!!

The Bride's Cafe:  What do you love most about designing invitations?

Kristy Rice: I love connecting with my clients.  The first conversation to discuss ideas and create rough sketches forecasts all the excitement to come.  I rarely meet my brides in person but I always marvel at the  powerful collaboration possible when trust and kindred visions are involved.

The Bride's Cafe:  What inspires you to design?

Kristy Rice:
Powerful red rock landscapes, the glimpse of an unexpected color combination,  a just-opened blossom in the morning, uncommon combinations of texture , hearing a sweet story that needs to be told.

The Bride's Cafe:  How important is the invitation?

Kristy Rice:
The invitation is a chance to begin telling your story.  Much more than luxurious papers and artful combinations of color, wedding stationery can be a collection of thoughts, words and images designed to capture and communicate emotion.

The Bride's Cafe:  What are some of the trends in 2009 for invitations?

Kristy Rice:  The girls at Momental are loving paper flowers!  Our newest Sculpted Blooms Collection translates the trend into an artistic invitation statement full of texture, color and dimension.  Presented in silk boxes, cascading down a seating plan or placed delicately on an escort card, these hand-crafted blooms enliven any stationery design.

Lately, uncommon combinations of texture and pattern have had a huge impact in stationery design.  Whether punchy sparkle mixes with classic linen or edgy feather trim blends with pretty paisley - the result is a rich palette ready to communicate a couples personality and vision.

We are seeing a huge return to the big lush bloom.  Brides are craving this classic representation of femininity but with a nod to modern style.    We love to combine classic floral illustrations with bold strokes of hand-painted color.

The Bride's Cafe:  What should a client bring to the consultation?

Kristy Rice:
The more the better, for us, honestly.  I love to see the big planning binder full of torn out magazine pages, fabric swatches and such.   I am also a huge fan of looking outside of wedding world for inspiration in some cases the most mundane item can inspire and entire color story!  The very first  steps in my design process involve sketching, snapping photos of the brides inspiration and creating impromptu inspiration boards as a road map for the design process to come.

The Bride's Cafe:  What is the process of designing ones invitations?

Kristy Rice:  The process begins with a simple conversation.  I pose a series of four questions that help each bride verbalize their stationery vision.  I create sketches of potential artwork, paper combinations and layout styles.  The next step involves the creation of a series of full color samples.

The Bride's Cafe:  What are some tips to share with a bride regarding her invites?

Kristy Rice:
Work with vendors you connect with conversations with a designer should feel like chatting with a friend.  Be candid and honest about your vision and share inspirations we love that!  Remember, your interaction with designers should feel like a collaborative, not a dissertation.  Find prospective vendors on Twitter and/or Facebook and get to know them first!

Get creative with your invitation wording - express yourself as a couple.  Many couples are incorporating song lyrics,  playful combinations of words and meaningful poems throughout their stationery.   For example, Request the honour of your presence can become Gather, celebrate and rejoice as we exchange vows

Remember that making a bold color statement for your wedding does not mean drenching every surface with intense color. Choose 1-3 powerful shades and accent with textured neutrals.

Thanks SO much Kristy for stopping by The Bride's Cafe...we love all the beautiful custom designs and it was fun getting to know you and the ladies at Momental Designs....guys, make sure you check out Momental Designs blog site....so much more to see!
